This close-up of a sterile hospital room is dominated by the stark composition of the white metal bed-frame and the nightstand with medicines and a water glass. The ticking of the alarm clock merely marks the passage of time, keeping track of when the next pills need to be swallowed and the doctors’ rounds will begin. The arrangement of the vase with the flower does not help much, and neither does the reproduction of a painting by Jan Zrzavý that used to be a common adornment in the corridors and rooms of public buildings. Despite all this, however, the painting also conveys a different energy – the energy of calm, silence and reconciliation.
