Tereza Foldynová’s black and white photographs explore the theme of home. However, they are not mere compositional arrangements of items that surround her; they resonate with a deep emotional connection, particularly to her garden and objects taken from it, which are depicted as sacred relics of the lived world.


FOLDYNOVÁ TEREZIE

(1985) Photographer. She studied Czech language and literature at the University of Ostrava’s Faculty of Arts and also attended Michal Kalhous’s photography studio at the Faculty of Fine Arts and Music. In 2013 she did an internship at the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź. She focuses on both traditional and experimental photography, as well as writing poetry and short stories. Since 2019 she has been a curator and educator at the Díra (“Hole”) photography gallery in Ostrava (opened in 2016). She also teaches Czech language and literature and photography at a secondary school. In 2013 she was nominated for the Essl Art Award and for the Czech Penguin Prize. She has been participating in group exhibitions since 2011 and has exhibited solo since 2013. Her photography has been displayed at the Valchařská Gallery in Brno (2017), the Fiducia Photo Gallery in Ostrava (2022) and Futura in Prague (2013). Her work has also illustrated several books, such as Roman Polách’s poetry collection A Sudden Wind That Is Your Witness (Protimluv, 2014), Zuzana Kultánová’s novella Augustin Zimmermann (Kniha Zlín, 2016), and Alžběta Johanka Petrová’s poetry collection Birthplace (Kosmas, 2023).
