wood, paper, 25 × 25 × 25 cm
This work demonstrates Kern’s interest in conceptual art during the mid-1970s. It is a residue from an outdoor performance in which the artist scattered a number of large dice around the landscape; adhering to each side of the dice are images of human skills accompanied by coils made of thin paper strips representing the coils of the human brain. Kern thus symbolically demonstrated the anthropological and existential diversity of the human population, the differences between individuals and the principles of random chance in human life (represented by the dice).
