Similar to Asger Jorn’s piece entitled Head, which you can also see on our website (here[HCJ1.1]), this work displays a radical stylization – this time of an entire human figure. The figure is based on the Constructivist principle of the intersection of orthogonal forms. The frontal view encourages a vertical reading of the figure, while the side view accentuates the figure’s expanding horizontal elements. The three-dimensional aspect enables the artist to extend the lines of force into space, offering a more radical (sculptural) expressive effect which is also supported by the yellow and black colours of the glaze.
