Treasure of European Art / permanent exhibition

8. 10. – 15. 11. 2008

After the former administrative spaces of the House of Art were renovated into exhibition halls, the Ostrava gallery’s collection exhibitions were opened, presenting treasures—the most important works of European art.

Due to the intimate character of the exhibition rooms, it is not possible to showcase the collection in all its richness. Nevertheless, we hope that encounters with works that are truly exceptional even in an international context will provide a pleasant experience for local visitors as well as tourists who long to see these artworks and come especially for them.

The most attractive treasure is the beautiful Judith by the famous Austrian artist Gustav Klimt. This rarest painting in the Ostrava collection constantly draws attention and raises many questions about the meaning of life and death and their manifestations.

The treasure exhibition also features works of old art, starting from the beginnings of the Renaissance in Venice, through the Rudolfine period painter H. v. Aachen, up to the outstanding Italian Baroque master D. Fetti.

In the section with Judith, visitors can also see masterful examples of Russian and Austrian art, as well as works by Spanish artists of the so-called Paris School.
