In addition to the monumental works he also created many sculptures and reliefs such as the Head of a Warrior dating from the period 1895−1900. It is typical of his work and suggests a classical stela discovered beneath the detritus of time, while also being a modern concise dynamic that radiates energy through the simplicity of the lines. Bourdelle introduced a new concept of sculpture, achieving the expressivity of his works through simplied geo- metrical principles. Crucial for the evolution of modern sculpture was his interest in the public function of the sculpture and its distinctive and equal status in architecture.
