Straws on wires – that’s one of Sealion Serafin’s creative tips devised during the months when we were closed due to the pandemic. We thought up 60 great creative art and craft tips for children, and we presented them with illustrations of Sealion Serafin to make them even more fun!
Serafin became the mascot of the gallery’s education centre in 2018. He was based on a 1936 sculpture of a sealion by Jan Lauda, which now stands on the steps in our vestibule. Children attending our education centre named him Serafin, and the sculpture (which has also served as a fountain in the flamingo house at Ostrava’s zoo) suddenly came to life. Today, Serafin is a fun and helpful guide for kids both at our education centre and at home. You can buy all kinds of souvenirs featuring him – including stickers, transfer tattoos, and soft toys.
This exhibition is aimed at children and accompanying adults. It presents a selection of 15 artworks from the gallery’s collections (drawings, paintings, graphic pieces, photographs and spatial works) which inspired Sealion Serafin’s creative tips. The exhibition includes interactive zones where you can play, draw, glue, cut, and let your imagination run free. You can find all the creative tips on the gallery’s website, and printed versions are also available at the exhibition for you to take home.
