This joint project – involving teachers, graduates and students of the painting studios at Bratislava’s Academy of Fine Arts and Design and the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Ostrava – responds to frequently posed questions regarding the boundaries of painting in today’s post-media environment. There is a pressing need for a new definition of painting which would enable it to find its own firm place among the diverse and rapidly developing new media (film, video, digital photography).
The exhibition focuses on the ways in which art studios at Czech and Slovak universities explore painting and define the space it occupies. An integral part of the exhibition project will be a conference featuring Czech and Slovak art theoreticians, which will bring new insights and perspectives on fine art not only for art students, but also for informed members of the public with a serious interest in painting and contemporary art. The exhibition curators are Daniel Balabán, Ivan Csudai and Beata Jablonská
