Dear visitors,
In 2026 we will be celebrating 100 years since the opening of the House of Art. We are already preparing for this anniversary by planning a range of exhibitions and accompanying events, and this year we are launching a major renovation of our listed historic building. In recent years we have renovated the windows, the basement areas, the roofs and the air conditioning system. Now we will be making numerous additional improvements, including a full renovation of the vestibule and brand-new toilet facilities. The interior will be completely repainted, and the security systems will be modernized. We carefully considered whether it would be possible to make these improvements while still keeping the gallery open and operating as normal – but eventually we had to conclude that this would not be possible, so unfortunately the House of Art will have to be closed to visitors from 21 July until the end of this year.
When we re-open, we will be inviting to you a brand-new exhibition of Czech modernism including works by Bohumila Kubišta, Emil Filla and Josef Čapek (from the gallery's extensive collections) as well as a range of additional events inspired by the House of Art's 100th birthday.

Dear visitors,
since you cannot come inside for art during the reconstruction, art is coming outside to meet you.
GVUO curator Jaroslav Michna has prepared three outdoor exhibitions that will at least partially make the gallery collection accessible in the form of printed reproductions:
SILENT MESSAGES (1 August – 21 September)
focus on representational, or if you like, illusionistic works. We don’t ask you to struggle with purely formal expressions; you can instead immerse yourself directly in the moods and inner meanings of the artworks. The exhibition highlights themes of silence, contemplation, solitude, and connection with nature.
CODES OF UNCERTAINTY (22 September – 12 November)
present non-representational tendencies in art: structural and geometric abstraction, minimalism, and surrealism. By their very nature, these works offer suspenseful and open-ended communication. You can experience them without any knowledge of context, or reflect on the relationship between form and content through the labels and short accompanying texts.
IN THE LINES OF FORCE OF LIFE (13 November – 31 December)
expresses dynamism, movement, and the power of visual energy transfer. It serves as a counterpoint to the first exhibition, aiming to evoke restlessness and emotional excitement.
We strive to bring art closer not only through exhibitions and guided tours but also through educational programs, which is why each outdoor exhibition has been complemented with creative tips for our youngest visitors.
Pause for a moment and let art under the open sky affect you.
