Architect and designer Radim Ulmann is the author of an impressive number of realized designs as well as unrealized prototypes of equipment for Czech theatres. For leading Czech historical theatres (such as the Estates Theatre in Prague, etc.), he designed historical paraphrases of seating that perfectly matched the concept of the original interiors. He was equally capable of designing interiors for contemporary theatres. He is the author of the equipment for the Klimeš Theatre in Most and the interior of the Jiří Myron Theatre in Ostrava.
Among Ulmann’s most significant and technically refined projects is the seating installation for a temporary auditorium in the Ledebur Gardens below Prague Castle. The brief required seating for 250 spectators, which had to be removable after the performance, leaving the garden in its original state. Only a small space beneath the garden staircase was designated for storing the seats. Ulmann designed highly durable metal chairs that could be easily anchored into the garden lawn, transported, stacked, and stored. In the Ledebur Garden, they can be arranged as needed for various events.
The uniqueness of this solution did not go unnoticed by the sponsor of the garden modifications—none other than Prince Charles himself—who expressed his gratitude to the author in a written letter for the excellently executed work. This letter is also on display at the exhibition.
