Tracing František Jureček

3. 6. 2026

Guided tour with art historian Gabriela Pelikánová. Only in Czech.

We know that František Jureček was a great art collector and patron – as can be seen in the large collection of works that he dedicated to the House of Art. But above all, he was a building contractor – a profession that his family passed down through the generations from father to son. The Jurečeks were very flexible in the projects they took on – and their work gained an additional dimension when another skilled builder, Otokar Bém, married into the family. Together we’ll be taking a closer look at some of the Jureček family’s projects. Among their buildings in Ostrava city centre were the Czech National Centre, the Czech high school, the Convent of the Sisters of Mercy, and the Moravian Ostrava Citizens’ Savings Bank. So let’s discover Ostrava through František Jureček’s eyes! We’ll meet outside the House of Art and set off to explore the city following in Jureček’s footsteps.
