The House of Art among the buildings of an industrial city

24. 1. 2026

3 p.m.

Guided tour with architect Martin Strakoš. Only in Czech.

Ostrava’s House of Art is one of the most striking works of Czech architecture created during the 1920s. In their design, the young architects Vladimír Wallenfels and František Fiala paid homage to their teacher Jan Kotěra, a professor at Prague’s Academy of Fine Arts. With its distinctive open brickwork façades, the House of Art also drew inspiration from Dutch architecture as well as the style of factory buildings in large industrial cities. This event combines a presentation with a guided tour.
You can learn about the House of Art’s past and present, its architecture, and parallel stories of similar buildings in the Czech Republic and elsewhere in Central Europe.
