MICHAEL RITTSTEIN / Shiny alley

Michael Rittstein (born 1949) is one of the most important painters of the middle generation. From 1964 to 1968, he studied at the Václav Hollar Secondary School of Art in Prague, and in 1974 he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, where he was a student of Prof. A. Paderlík. He focuses on painting, drawing, illustration, and free graphics. He is a co-founder of the group 12/15 Pozdě, ale přece, established in 1987, and a member of the art associations Nová skupina and the Mánes Association of Visual Artists. His works are represented in the collections of the National Gallery in Prague, the Gallery of the Capital City of Prague, the Czech Museum of Fine Arts in Prague, the National Literature Memorial in Prague, the Moravian Gallery in Brno, the Gallery of Fine Arts in Ostrava, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Albertina in Vienna, and others. Michael Rittstein lives and works in Prague and is the head of the Painting Studio III at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague.
