The opening will taken place on Tuesday 13 January at 5 p.m.
An important part of our collection is devoted to old art, and these works make up one of the most noteworthy and valuable groups within the gallery’s holdings. This selection aims to provide a clear and vivid overview of developments between 1500 and 1800. Although there are certain gaps in the collection, its combination of paintings and graphic art allows for a fuller representation of stylistic evolution during the course of this period. The earlier works originate from Central Europe, and they illustrate the transition from the late Gothic era to the Renaissance. The 16th-century works are dominated by Italian art, with a particular focus on Mannerism, which was closely associated with the court of Rudolf II in Prague. The collection is particularly rich in Baroque art from the 17th and 18th centuries, which reflects the social, political and religious transformations of its time. The exhibition also includes a smaller number of works by Italian and Dutch Masters.
