MARIANNE AUE / Returning Home

4. 11. 2026 – 3. 1. 2027
The patron of the exhibition is Peter Harvánek, the Moravian-Silesian Region’s Councillor for Culture and Heritage Management.
The project is financially supported by Czech Ministry of Culture.

The opening will take place on Tuesday 3 November at 5 p.m.

This exhibition presents the work of the German artist Marianne Aue (1932 Bruntál – 2016 Leverkusen), who was one of the most prominent (though today less well-known) figures of the European post-war avant-garde. Associated with the ZERO and New Tendencies movements, Aue made a fundamental contribution to the development of geometric and structural abstraction during her brief but intense artistic career in the 1960s. Her characteristic monochromatic reliefs, made up of rhythmically constructed linear elements protruding from the picture’s surface, blur the boundaries between painting and sculpture. In these works, light and shade become equally important artistic devices that draw the viewer into a game of visual transformations while simultaneously creating their own layer of meaning. Aue participated in a number of key European exhibitions during the 1960s (including “The European Avant-Garde”, Frankfurt am Main 1963, and “nova tendencija 3”, Zagreb 1965).
