The opening will take place on Tuesday 10 September at 5 p.m.
The Gallery of Fine Arts in Ostrava is showcasing the work of Marek Kvetan (1976), one of the most distinctive figures on Slovakia’s contemporary art scene. Kvetan’s artistic programme draws on post-conceptual positions and analytical approaches, and in his current series of works he is focusing on 3D modelling, ironic objects and visual environments. The originality of these works is clearly visible in how they directly incorporate the latest technologies into the sculptural process (digitalization, computer modelling, CT scans, 3D printing and similar methods).
A key series presented at the Ostrava exhibition for the first time is Vessels of Temporality (2023–2024), a collection of outsized Baroque-style vases that are transformed by means of generative programs, referring to post-colonial styles and the superficiality of our advertising culture (metallic car paint). Other works in a similar spirit are an installation based on an enlarged skeleton of the artist’s hand – Touch of Creation (2024) – and an installation of plaster vessels entitled Data Storage 20.21 (2020–2022), whose contents the artist consumed during the Covid lockdown.
