JANUSZ KAPUSTA / K-dron

14. 10. – 27. 11. 2011
The exhibition is organized by GVUO and the Cabinet of Architecture.

K-dron – The existence of this hendecahedron was first recorded and described only in 1985. The name of the shape consists of the word "dron," which in Greek means "face" (wall), and the eleventh letter of the Greek alphabet "K," indicating the number of faces of this newly defined solid. Groups of K-drons can be arranged in many different ways, and each new arrangement very sensitively renders light and shadow. Changing the angle of the light leads to discovering new patterns. The K-dron was patented in the USA in 1987 under patent number 4681481. Since then, it has been used for designs of constructions, building facades, toys, games, jewelry, theater costumes, scenography, and automobile bodies. There are many applications of the principles of this geometric solid, which are described in publications by the discoverer of the K-dron, Janusz Kapusta, a graphic artist, illustrator, and theater scenographer who has lived permanently in New York since 1981, where he works for, among others, The New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, Globe, Graphis, and Print.
