ČESTMÍR SUŠKA / Inside Outside

12. 6. – 16. 9. 2012

The exhibition project Outside / Inside consists of two parts. The first part, presenting a selection from Suška’s lifelong work, is showcased in the House of Art in Ostrava. The second part is an intervention into the urban space, presenting a selection of the artist’s monumental works from the Rusty Flowers series. Two four-and-a-half-meter perforated containers, Ocelot and Urbus, are installed around the House of Art. One of the objects is exhibited at Dr. Beneš Square in front of Česká spořitelna bank, and the other near the Imperial Hotel on 28. října street.

The nature of the works presented in the urban exterior resonates with the industrial character of the city, corresponding with the material used—iron. These objects expand Ostrava’s industrial heritage with elements of contemporary art.

The title Outside / Inside refers not only to the placement of the exhibited objects inside and outside the exhibition building but also relates to the visitor’s openness to perceiving visual art. The artworks can be viewed not only from the outside but also from the inside through openings that allow air and light to flow, creating a distinctive image reflecting the industrial origin of the exhibited pieces.
