KRIŠTOF KINTERA / Holy spirit opened

8. 5. – 7. 6. 2009

The exhibition was created in cooperation with Krištof Kintera and the East Bohemian Gallery in Pardubice. It is a specific exhibition project that brings to Ostrava the most current trends in contemporary Czech art – trends that also resonate within the global context.

Krištof Kintera (born 1972) is one of the most successful and compelling Czech artists. His work is internationally recognized, and he has participated in some of the most significant exhibitions abroad. His artistic approach is marked by a certain skepticism about the possibilities and role of art. In the best sense of the word, he is an “engaged” artist who constantly questions both himself and the world around him – through installations, videos, and performances.

His questions emerge from everyday experience and respond to social and political issues. Although often ambiguous, Kintera’s works are globally understandable and thought-provoking. He works with products of mass consumption and intervenes into consumer culture with his own sculptural objects.

Krištof Kintera also reaches audiences through performances and theatrical shows, often held in the streets, in collaboration with the Jednotka group.

Together with David Černý, Tomáš Pospiszyl, and Viktor Frešo, he co-created the much-discussed installation Entropa, which is currently on display in Brussels.
