VLADIMÍR ŠKODA / Energy

24. 6. – 30. 8. 2015

MATTER is energy: glowing metal worked in the forge, full of energy and light, passing through white, yellow, and red, which finally turns black again when it cools down, dazzled me like the sun. (Vladimír Škoda)

The exhibition aims to highlight the course of Vladimír Škoda’s last twenty years of creation, whose strength and originality come from the very emphasis on connecting the artist’s thinking with the most advanced research and hypotheses of contemporary astrophysics. This artistic idea is never merely a simple depiction or transcription, but stems from the wise act of grasping raw material and understanding how it is processed. One can see that the spherical shape is conditioned not only by the sculptor’s aesthetic desire but also by its weight, so its presence in this world is subject to the laws of gravity and gravitation. Thus, a magnificent work arises here, born from these first insights—a work that itself understands and embraces the doubts and uncertainties of thought triggered by the artist’s production.
Vladimír Škoda has arrived at expressing virtual reality through an autonomous path, in accordance with the philosophy of his unique aesthetics. He moves from a vivid, objective depiction of the universe to capturing its dynamic concept. Škoda’s idea of movement is closely tied to the notion of a constant universal flow of everything in all directions. For the slow rhythmic swinging of pendulums, the author essentially utilizes the gravitational force of our planet, and the golden, silver, or black spheres of the oscillator naturally complement the infinite star system. Lines extend from a single point in both directions into infinity.
