Skvosty evropského umění (Treasures of European Art)

This publication accompanied the exhibition of the same name held at Ostrava’s Gallery of Fine Arts in 2008. It is a catalogue presenting some of the most valuable works in the gallery’s collections. The works are grouped by national (or geographic) origin to form several categories: Italian, Dutch, French, Spanish, Russian and Central European art. The gallery’s collection is not only extensive; it is also of outstanding quality. It includes works which can be grouped together to form logically complete entities, enabling researchers to trace developments within a particular area over the course of time. One example of such an entity is the collection of Russian art, which displays formal tendencies ranging from realism and classicism to impressionism and expressive symbolism. The publication contains colour reproductions and brief bio-notes about individual artists (in Czech and English).
