Tajemné dálky: Symbolismus v českých zemích 1880–1914 ("Mysterious Distances: Symbolism in the Czech Lands 1880–1914")

Symbolism is currently perceived as one of the key art movements of the last decades of the 19th and early 20th centuries. In the Czech environment, it was the first direction that proclaimed proclamatively as part of a wider European artistic current. Thanks to him, Czech art belonged to the natural context of European culture. In addition to a plethora of resounding names (Pirner, Knüpfer, Schwaiger, Mucha, Kupka, Švabinský, Bílek, Šaloun, Zrzavý) we can find works by dozens of other authors, often little known and newly discovered. An anthology of contemporary critical texts is intertwined with the book. It includes studies devoted to symbolism in literature, theater and applied art. The book is supplemented by a calendar, a list of literature and a register of names.
