Josef Váchal (1884–1969) is one of the most prominent figures in Czech art of the 20th century. He used his talent in a number of diverse realizations. He drew, painted, carved statues and furniture, etched, cast fonts, bound books and wrote. Above all, however, he considered himself a woodcutter and concentrated his graphic works in a number of original prints and books.
