Jiří Brdeček's book presents in word and image the life and versatile work of one of the most prominent Czech filmmakers of the 20th century, Jiří Brdečka (1917–1982). However, the monograph is mainly focused on Brdeček's screenwriting for Czech feature film and especially on his animated films, which brought him international fame and ranked him among the most important post-war creators of animated film on a global scale. The book, containing hundreds of photographs, drawings, reproductions and facsimiles, is a monograph intended for reading and viewing, a living chronicle of a remarkable human life filled with admirable creative work. It is an extremely valuable testimony to one of the very important chapters of Czech culture from the second half of the 1930s to the early 1980s.
