Last year's generous gesture by the management of the Gallery of Fine Arts in Ostrava (GVUO), which resolved the until-then entirely inadequate spatial conditions for presenting graduate works from the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Ostrava, appears to have taken root. For the second time now, fresh graduates from various departments have the opportunity to present the outcomes of their work in GVU’s exhibition spaces—this time in the New Hall in Poruba and in the lecture hall of the House of Art.
The exhibited works—video projections, installations, paintings, drawings, and objects—are not merely an overview of young art emerging from an equally young faculty. The works displayed in the lecture hall form a kind of nominated selection. From this selection, a professional jury will choose the best thesis project of the year. The author of the winning work will receive an offer from GVUO to hold a solo exhibition in the New Hall in 2010 and to publish an individual catalogue.
