IVAN TITOR / Chaoticon

20. 2. – 12. 4. 2008

The essence of Titor’s work, as the artist himself once said, lies in its focus on the “imaginary boundary that divides reality and fiction, beginning and end, as well as order and chaos in our mind.” In an age of “instant” artistic expression, facilitated mainly by electronic media, it is all the more remarkable to observe how the artist reflects current issues through the time-consuming “traditional” technique of painting. It is clear that Titor’s laborious process is a matter of conscious choice, and that the process of creating the image is an integral part of his critical reflections on the failure of human utopias. Although he draws inspiration from the rich tradition of European art (which he often directly references in his paintings), Ivan Titor remains a contemporary creator, responding to the specific contexts of life in the whirlpool of post-industrial existence.
